Food Incubation Summit Austin 2019

The only event of its kind, the annual Food Incubation Summit is 2-day event complete with education sessions, tours, networking events, and culminating in an evening of food, music, and celebration of all things food incubation. Each year The Food Incubation Summit explores a city’s strengths, challenges, and best practices in building a vibrant food system, directly from local leaders that live, work and eat there.

Kitchens as a service (KAAS) are spreading around the country, propelled by America’s changing tastes and an expanding market for healthy, fresh, local, and sustainable specialty foods. By providing entrepreneurs, producers, and food access programs with affordable commercial kitchen space, KAAS can help strengthen local food systems and build community prosperity.

​Because of this, KAAS are being embraced as tools to achieve a wide variety of community impact goals, from job creation to workforce training, healthy food access to nutrition education, farm viability to localizing the food economy, and neighborhood revitalization to tourism. Additionally, investments in KAAS offer more inclusive economic opportunities. The shared use commercial kitchen has become an important tool for overcoming obstacles entrepreneurs with limited resources face when entering the food industry.

The Network for Incubator and Commissary Kitchens (NICK) is the largest network of KAAS in the world. The NICK supports the food industry through sharing data, best practices, and technical assistance to build and grow successful shared-use kitchen businesses.

This year’s Summit will explore the burgeoning CPG scene in Austin, Texas to learn how the Capitol City is uniquely positioned to support a new era of food entrepreneurs by focusing on infrastructure, investment, ecosystem services, and business execution.
